Great. Who’d We Get?

That’s my question upon learning the Mets sucessfully vomited Billy Wagner onto the Red Sox like he was a lead in a 2006 NLCS game. Bye bye Billy.

Wagner’s spot on the roster will be filled by Pat Misch, up for the second time in the last few days. Misch was initially brought up when the Mets designated Andy Green for assignment, then demoted the next day when Ken Takahashi returned.

Meantime, you may have heard that Johan Santana joined the DL and will return in the spring. Presumably. He’s been replaced by Nick Evans. Just as earlier this year, in case you forgot: Misch is wearing 48; Takahashi is in 36 and Evans in the immortal No. 6.

I’d say more but I’m taking the week off!

You know how close we are to a new McKnight? Robby Cancel will probably get the September call up, potentially putting him in his fourth number (as you pointed out recently). I’m certain that he’ll be another desperation catcher at some point in the next few years giving him the best shot of catching McKnight ever! This is FIOS-Big!

Rumor has it that one of the players is Chris Carter.

Here’s the write up about him:
Scouting Report: Extremely intelligent, Carter is a real student of hitting, and has demonstrated success with the bat at every level. Excellent power with the potential for more. Hits for average and consistently gets on base at a very good clip. Hits lefties and righties well. Below average speed. In the field, Carter has spent much of his career at 1B but was moved to the outfield in 2008. He has always been known as a poor fielder, and still doesn’t look particularly comfortable at any position. He has focused on his glove and footwork and has improved slightly, but still not enough.
Sounds like Daniel Murphy with power. I’ve been told that he’s a AAAA player. Too good for AAA but not a major leaguer. Another project. Maybe its time to bring the DH to the NL.

    and this from rotoworld.com…

According to the Boston Globe’s Amalie Benjamin, the Yankees have claimed outfielder Chris Carter, who was headed to the Mets on waivers as part of this week’s Billy Wagner deal.

It’s a bold move by the Yankees, who won’t be able to bring Carter on, but simply blocked the Mets from getting a look at the 26-year-old outfielder this season. He’ll join the Metropolitans once the ’09 season is through and there are no longer waiver restrictions.

What’s the point of the Yankees doing this?

It makes the Sox keep him on

It makes the Sox keep him on their 40 man roster, thus reducing their flexibility.

But it also enables the Sox to use him in September games, so I’m not sure the Yankees accomplished anything meaningful…any idea of the second player’s identity?
