Quickly noting here the Mets apparently have signed outfielder Gary Sheffield, formerly of every other team. No word yet on what uniform number he’ll wear but he’s Dwight Gooden‘s nephew, you know, and 16 belongs to a guy whose job will likely disappear because of this, disabled reserve Angel Pagan. Also unclear as of this writing is who will be the immediate victim of Sheffield’saddition.
Still no word on what uniform Sean Green switches to — perhaps he’ll show up in it at Citi Field tonight.

Shef usually has worn #10 or #11… also wore #1 (Brewers), #5 (Dodgers briefly), and spent the last two years in #3 with Detroit.
Newsday suggests it’s Marlon Anderson who’s departing.

I think he will go with #10, even though Doc is his uncle. #10 seems to always be his first choice if available. Sean Green is still in #48 tonight.

Metsblog just reported that Sheffield will wear #10. Not surprising since that’s been the number he’s worn most of his career. He wore #11 on the Braves (Chipper has #10) and on the Yanks (#10 is retired), but that’s when #10 was unavailable.
Not sure why he wore #3 on the Tigers.
