Welcome to New Jersey

My friend Dave reports the buzz on the Intenets suggests the Mets will unveil their new uniform designs on Friday, Nov. 27. For those of you dreading the worst, that day is also known as “Black Friday” and the official kick off to the Holiday shopping season. It’s also a week before the Winter Meetings get underway.

That the home pinstripe unis will shift from a bright-white to cream color is the worst kept secretof this event. What might be more interesting to track is whether those jerseys will retain the unnecessary black accents that the current jerseys do, and whatever other changes might be in store.

I’ve been tipped off that certain influential people in the Mets organization are strongly in favor of a new alternate look — that is, to balance to the “retro” look of the cream pinstripes — as well as subtle chages to the current ensemble including the removal of piping on the plackets of the home whites. That would allow the Mets to further resemble to Dodgers, but if you’re going to copy an NL team, you could do worse. Do you think this addition might mean they cashier the all-black look or would they dare mix and match four looks? I dunno. And I wish they’d come to realize the two-tone hat is just awful and derserved to die years ago already.

Pictured here are a few of the alterna-prototypes the Mets asked season-ticket holders to consider earlier this year. What do you think?

I think that we are going to get screwed over on the unis because they will not be different at all

I am *not* in favor of this

I am *not* in favor of this new look. How about really going retro and reinstituting the 1969 style? Besides the style of letters and numbers, I like that there are no names on the back of the jersey — just numbers. To my eye, it’s a neater and cleaner look. Besides, I’ve often thought player names on jerseys is redundant. Don’t the numbers identify the players?

    The only conceivable reason

The only conceivable reason for a uniform change is that it creates new items to be sold at the endless clothing stores at this shopping mall with a baseball field in the middle that the Wilpons are making us pay for. If this is an example of the hot stove news we’re getting this winter, well Wilpons, good luck selling tickets.

    Uni Blues

I’ve got to say I’ve given this some thought and beyond some basic preferences (blue caps/socks always; less black the better; no names on home backs) I’m surprisingly benign to the whole thing.

Of course it’s all about having something to sell — I was at the park the last week of the season and there was a TON of inventory with the 09 Patch gathering dust even at 30% off.

On the other hand, it’s not as if they’re messing with a classic, necessarily, and they have been with the same basic getup for a decade+ now, some freshening up for a new decade shouldn’t be out of the question. Ultimately, looks like whatever changes are coming will be minor and/or used infrequently.

    Why Charlie?

Whatever unis they have, I’m still awaiting an explanation as to why Charlie Samuels is given so much power as to decide which one they wear for each game, and why he apparently has a hard-on for that awful black-and-blue hat they seem to wear about 60-70% of the time…

Can someone, anyone, PLEASE explain this?

    oh heeeells no

No. The idiot in charge of this decision needs to be canned. What the hell was wrong with the white with blue pin-stripe and mets in the middle? Used those for years but then some one said “nope we need new unis”. STOP. our ‘sunday whites’ look like rejected Brooklyn Dodgers jerseys with mets instead of dodgers.

METS ORGANIZATION….KEEP THE GRAY ROAD AND THE WHITE WITH BLUE PIN STRIP AS OUR JERSIES…STOP ADDING COLORS AND CHANGING IT!!!!

also get rid of the black two tone its the worst thing ever.
