Mets Whack Willie

Pitching coach Rick Peterson too and because they can, first-base coach Tom Nieto.

And just when I’d begun to tune out all the rumors.

Stay tuned for the press conference today to see whether Ken Oberkfell, promoted from Norfolk to the big league staff along with pitching coach Dan Warthen and infield coordinator Luis Aguayo, alights again in No. 0, and whether Jerry Manuel’s first move as interim manager is to shed No. 53.

Aguayo usually wore 16, as well as 23, 29, and 33.

    Warthen: 39, 33, 31

    Oberkfell: 24 and 10 mostly, also 14 and 5.

A lot of new names to sew on jerseys… hope the clubhouse guys brought extras.

Officer Obie should end up in 24, with the others in coachly numbers in the fifties.

Hopefully this means more usage of the pinstripes with the blue caps at home!

I wish Oberkfell had kept No. 0. It’s not like it’s a forbidden number with the Mets, and numbers over 50 look ugly and non-baseballish. Bring back Obie’s zero!

    Perhaps we’ll see different

Perhaps we’ll see different numbers when they return to Shea.
    0 doesn’t seem like a baseballish number, though…
