{"id":897,"date":"2008-04-12T01:53:20","date_gmt":"2008-04-12T01:53:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.beta.mbtn.net\/?p=897"},"modified":"2013-12-01T01:55:28","modified_gmt":"2013-12-01T01:55:28","slug":"almost-like-homemade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mbtn.net\/?p=897","title":{"rendered":"Almost Like Homemade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So this is turning out to be a better week than it looked like it might be back on Tuesday, what with an impressive debut starts from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mbtn.net\/player\/pelfrey-mike\">Mike Pelfrey<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mbtn.net\/player\/figueroa-nelson\">Nelson Figueroa<\/a>; the first Metly appearance and contribution from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mbtn.net\/player\/casanova-raul\">Raul Casanova<\/a>; and a continued MVP bid from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mbtn.net\/player\/pagan-angel\">Angel Pagan<\/a>. There&#8217;s something satisfying knowing that all these guys are one-time products of the maligned Mets farm system.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Great job, wrong size jersey\" alt=\"Great job, wrong size jersey\" src=\"http:\/\/mbtn.net\/images\/figueroa27.jpg\" width=\"145\" height=\"205\" align=\"right\" \/>Figueroa&#8217;s victory last night marked the first appearance of the dreaded black unis all season (not to mention the first call for a tailor to get Figueroa&#8217;s jersey to fit right. Looked like a size 44 wearing a 52). Correct me if I&#8217;m wrong, but we&#8217;ve yet to see pinstripes and\/or the gorgeous all-blue Mets cap yet. Speaking as a neighbor of hundreds of young hipsters, the latter is becoming the new trucker cap around here: I&#8217;ll try and gather photographic evidence and show you in a future post.<\/p>\n<p>Nice to see the Mets honor Shea (that&#8217;s my wife&#8217;s maiden name, doncha know?) but leave it to the incomparable\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uniwatchblog.com\/2008\/04\/09\/paging-pedro-feliciano-the-2008-season-is-leaving-without-you\/\" target=\"_blank\">Paul Lukas<\/a>\u00a0to point out they did so while introducing unnecessary black dropshadows to the logo and accompanying retired numbers.<\/p>\n<p>* Thanks to Eric Simon of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazinavenue.com\/2008\/4\/8\/390708\/review-mets-by-the-numbers\" target=\"_blank\">Amazin&#8217; Avenue<\/a>\u00a0(and his readers) for the enthusiastic book review he published recently.
