No word yet on what number Mr. Marlin will wear for the Mets but he\u2019s most often been spotted in\u00a0<strong>18 and 19<\/strong>\u00a0with his other employers.<\/p>\n<p>Guess here is that as a means of welcoming Conine to New York, the Mets will offer him 19, currently belonging to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mbtn.net\/player\/alomar-sandy-jr\"><strong>Sandy Alomar Jr.<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0but of no real significance to him. (How significant Alomar is at all is a matter of debate).\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mbtn.net\/player\/alou-moises\"><strong>Moises Alou<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0has 18 today and will tomorrow. Another solution is to give him \u201c09\u2033 (pronounced\u00a0<em>oh-nine<\/em>) which would rhyme.<\/p>\n<p>I might have preferred the Mets swing a deal for Detroit\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Craig Monroe,<\/strong>\u00a0who\u2019s younger and presumably still has upside. The issue I have with Conine is only that in the event Delgado doesn\u2019t heal properly the Mets will be tempted to make him an everyday guy and we\u2019ve seen too often already this year the downside to that. But, here\u2019s to Mr. Marlin.
