As things shake out it\u2019s come down to Park,\u00a0<strong>Ambiorix Burgos 40<\/strong>and optionless\/hapless acquiree\u00a0<strong>Jon Adkins 39<\/strong>\u00a0for the seventh and final bullpen slot; The Mets will go with four starters the first few times around before recalling\u00a0<strong>Mike Pelfrey<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>34\u00a0<\/strong>to become the 5th starter. That may prove to reward precocious prospect\u00a0<strong>Lastings Milledge 44\u00a0<\/strong>for a strong showing this spring seeing as outfielder\u00a0<strong>Ben Johnson 4<\/strong>\u00a0was cut today (along with lesser hopefuls\u00a0<strong>Mike Carp 64, Lino Urdaneta 68, Anderson Hernandez 1, Ruben Gotay 6, Mike DiFelice 30 and Sandy Alomar Jr. 90).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Spring leaders of the Ring-Bell for Adkins-Johnson trade are the Padres, who\u2019ve gotten a 0.90 ERA out of\u00a0<strong>Heath Bell<\/strong>\u00a0thus far.<\/p>\n<p>Word from the\u00a0<em>Daily News<\/em>\u00a0is the Mets will commemorate Smith\u2019s promotion by slashing his uniform number in half,\u00a0<strong>from 70 to 35.\u00a0<\/strong>Ironically, that\u2019s the same number they tried to assign to last year\u2019s righthanded submariner,\u00a0<strong>Chad Bradford<\/strong>, before Bradford fled for the quirkier\u00a0<strong>53.<\/strong>Troublingly, that\u2019s also the number rosters list Sele as wearing, unless Sele switched while I wasn\u2019t looking (entirely possible).
