Bannister is wearing\u00a0<strong>No. 61<\/strong>\u00a0currently. There are historical precedents for any outcome: When\u00a0<strong>Dwight Gooden<\/strong>\u00a0earned a roster spot in 1984, he went from\u00a0<strong>64 to 16;<\/strong>\u00a0but when\u00a0<strong>Eric Valent<\/strong>\u00a0unexpectedly made the 2004 Mets, he kept his St. Lucified<strong>\u00a057.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span>Should Bannister wish to pay tribute to his dad\u00a0<strong>Floyd,<\/strong>\u00a0a cursory check through the baseball cards reveals he wore Nos.\u00a0<strong>19 and 38<\/strong>\u00a0in his career: Neither is available except in the case\u00a0<strong>Heath Bell\u00a0<\/strong>fails to make the roster or is traded &#8212; both possibilities we&#8217;ve read in the last week.
