He was issued\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mbtn.net\/number\/26\">No. 26<\/a>\u00a0&#8212; a number Met fans of my generation will probably always associate with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mbtn.net\/player\/kingman-dave\">Dave Kingman<\/a>. Some commenters have already speculated that won&#8217;t be a long-term placement, given Ramon Martinez had a one-game appearance in 26 only a week ago, and I suppose I wouldn&#8217;t be surprised at some point for a change. I get a single-digit or teens feel from him. But we&#8217;ll see.<\/p>\n<p>He was recalled to take the place of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mbtn.net\/player\/church-ryan\">Ryan Church<\/a>, now an unhappy resident of the disabled list. He&#8217;s joined there by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mbtn.net\/player\/reyes-jose\">Jose Reyes<\/a>\u00a0whose absense &#8212; along with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mbtn.net\/player\/martinez-ramon\">Ramon Martinez<\/a>&#8216;s shaky credentials as a capable backup &#8212; prommpted the Mets to make a deal with the Indians for their AAA shortstop,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mbtn.net\/player\/valdez-wilson\">Wilson Valdez<\/a>, once they agreed on the number of balls that make up a bag. Valdez was issued\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mbtn.net\/number\/4\">No. 4.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Mets went and won handily, getting an RBI groundout from Fartinez, a three-run homer from<a href=\"http:\/\/mbtn.net\/player\/sheffield-gary\">Gary Sheffield<\/a>, doubles from Ramon Martinez and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mbtn.net\/player\/santos-omir\">Omir Santos<\/a>, and a complete-game from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mbtn.net\/player\/hernandez-livan\">Livan Hernandez<\/a>.
