In\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/keitholbermann.mlblogs.com\/archives\/2009\/05\/meet_wilbur_huckle_again.html\" target=\"_blank\">his latest post<\/a>, Keith quotes the article we posted and reveals that the roster obtained by his photographer friend includes Huckle&#8217;s name written in pencil and identified as wearing No. 24 &#8212; a jersey that would have been available in September of 1963. He also follows up with details of the New Breed&#8217;s push for Huckle&#8217;s presidential candidacy in 1964. A shout-out for MBTN and Jason? Nope.<\/p>\n<p>Reader Edward in the meantime reminds us that\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mbtn.net\/player\/strawberry-darryl\">Darryl Strawberry<\/a>\u00a0and a pitcher &#8212; he cannot recall who &#8212; were similarly invited to spend time with the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mbtn.net\/year\/1982\">1982 Mets<\/a>\u00a0at season&#8217;s end.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">* * * * * *<\/p>\n<p>Keith&#8217;s blog has been added to the\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Good at Baseball&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0links to the left. To the Mets links, I&#8217;ve added those of beat writers\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/blogs\/mets\/\">Adam Rubin<\/a>\u00a0of the Daily News and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/weblogs.newsday.com\/sports\/baseball\/mets\/blog\/\">David Lennon<\/a>\u00a0of Newsday &#8212; two guys who work incredibly hard so that other bloggers have links to aggregate every day. The print press is getting killed and the Internet is a great thing but to me there&#8217;s nothing like getting my hands all inky with the Snooze every morning. At 50 cents a day it&#8217;s an ideal commute killer and a bargain too. Read the papers.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">* * * * * *<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Helmet... from hell\" alt=\"Helmet... from hell\" src=\"http:\/\/mbtn.net\/images\/easley.jpg\" width=\"127\" height=\"186\" align=\"right\" \/>The Mets appear to have shut down\u00a0<strong>their online survey<\/strong>\u00a0on their uniforms &#8212; hopefully not before you, like me, submitted a few dozen responses. Don&#8217;t think I&#8217;ve come across anyone who&#8217;s a big fan of the black anymore but I sense the hatred among the prototypes in the survey was strongest for the vest which, I&#8217;m just gonna say, I don&#8217;t think is so bad\u00a0<em>provided you&#8217;re resigned to the inevitability of an alternate<\/em>, which I am.<\/p>\n<p>But you know what I really hate and they didn&#8217;t even ask about? Those two-tone helmets. My, they&#8217;re awful.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, I&#8217;d give a week&#8217;s pay to be the guy to summarize the survey findings for Jeff.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">* * * * * *<\/p>\n<p>We weren&#8217;t even finished with the press events around the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mbtn.net\/book\">Mets by the Numbers book<\/a>\u00a0last spring when my co-writer\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/metsilverman.com\/\">Matt Silverman<\/a>\u00a0was at work on two new projects. One was\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Cubs-Numbers-Complete-History-Cubbies\/dp\/1602393729\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1242959918&amp;sr=1-1\" target=\"_blank\">Cubs by the Numbers<\/a>\u00a0(I know, right?) done with the same editor at Skyhorse and with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cubsbythenumbers.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kasey Ignarski<\/a>who&#8217;d been tracking Cubs numbers for at least as long as I&#8217;d been doing Mets numbers here (also Al Yellon, at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bleedcubbieblue.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bleed Cubbie Blue<\/a>\u00a0blog). If you happen to have a friend who&#8217;s a Cubs fan, consider buying them this as a gift.<\/p>\n<p>The other project was a daring diary style book with none other than\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mbtn.net\/player\/hernandez-keith\">Keith Hernandez<\/a>\u00a0which Matthew was doing via phone interviews and transcribed notes all summer long, never knowing how the narrative would turn out. It became\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Shea-Good-Bye-Untold-Historic\/dp\/1600781705\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1242959130&amp;sr=8-1\" target=\"_blank\">Shea Goodbye<\/a>, recently published by Triumph.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">\u00a0* * * * * *<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve added\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mbtn.net\/player\/martinez-ramon\">Ramon Martinez<\/a>\u00a0to the list of Mets who&#8217;ve\u00a0<strong>worn three numbers<\/strong>\u00a0as published on the<a href=\"http:\/\/mbtn.net\/mcknight\">Jeff McKnight<\/a>\u00a0page.
