Middle infielder capable of spectacular plays in the field but who struggled to hit balls out the infield as well.

Acquired from Detroit for catcher Vance Wilson, Hernandez was the opening day second baseman in 2006 but eventually relegated to the minors where he spent much of 2007 and all of 2008. Shipped to Washington for reliever Luis Ayala in August 2008.
