For Our Next Number

Not to turn this into a cultural omniblog, but thought I’d point out this new song and album from The Baseball Project, a collection of baseball-related rock and/or roll from “supergroup” collaboration of acclaimed msucians from REM (that’s Peter Buck on bass), the Dream Syndicate and the Young Fresh Fellows. Their album is out this week.

Now back to our irregularly scheduled programming.

I have this CD – pretty good stuff. Lyrically fun, good musicianship (as you would expect from this crew) – I’d definitely recommend this to REM, YFF and Minus 5 fans.

I’m an aging, lapsed REM fanatic and fairly ignorant of three-fourths of this band’s prior work, so I take David Letterman’s word (and yours) of their acclaim. Plus this one sounds good, and their perspective seems mope or less aligned with mine, baseball-wise.

Unlapse yourself and get a copy of Accelerate. It rocks in every good way, and will take fifteen years off your emotional age.

I always wanted to get a baseball jersey made that had ‘R.E.M.’ on the front in block letters, and the name and number on the back were DRIVER 8.
