  1. Jim A says:

Corey Oswalt is #55, per Mets.com

  2. Tom says:

At this point there are lots of vacancies, so why are Lugo and Gsellman still wearing offensive lineman numbers?

  3. Matt B says:

Vargas will wear #40. I agree on Lugo and Gsellman…those were their spring training numbers in 2016, and then they were reissued them when they came up. Some guys are superstitious, in that once they get to the bigs and are assigned a number, they keep that one, even though it might be a high one. I am sure if they asked for lower numbers, they could get them at this point. They might not care.

    • Tom says:

      I just think it’s goofy.

      • Gene F. says:

In Ball Four Jim Bouton talks about when was assigned 56 in camp during his rookie year when he had little chance of making the team. He made it and was very successful, and when they asked if he wanted a better number the next year he kept 56 (and I’m paraphrasing here) to remind him of how close he was to not making the club.

  4. Matt B says:

I totally agree it’s goofy! And TJ shouldn’t be wearing #54, either. Too bad former clubhouse manager Charlie Samuel’s got busted a few years back for stealing and selling Mets game worn stuff. He at least knew how to issue uniform numbers! 😉

  5. Gordon says:

I’ve always assumed that Gsellman’s 65 is by choice. Think 65ellman.

  6. Chris says:

I hope someday they’ll make a firm decision regarding #8 and #24–retire them or return them to the rotation.

  7. Gordon says:

A.J. Griffin has been given 46
