All You Zombies Show Your Faces

Quick note to inform everyone we’re still here, wearing our Phillie Phanatic Underoos and puzzling over the perceived lack of conviction among Met fans for rooting interests this World Series. We had some computer issues, busy work schedules and sickness, but will have new Met related stuff up soon.

Hey Met fans: Root for the Phillies. The way I see it, the Phils beat the Mets, they may as well beat everyone. And they’re the only team this postseason — certainly the first to face the Yankees — that hasn’t gone around playing the kind of embarrassing baseball we’ve already seen too much of this year. So if you’re still on the fence, don’t let rhe media trick you into buying Mets-Phillies as an overwrought drama in the vein of Red Sox-Yankees: Support your league, take what consolation you can in acknowledging the Mets fell to a terrific team, and hope the Phillies get their Phil this time around (if ever) and subsequently begin the the kind of sad death-spiral that all multichampionship teams eventually encounter.

I wasn’t sure how I felt until last night, when I found myself enjoying Cliff Lee’s domination of the Yankees and pulling for the Phils…I flashed back to Dave Mlicki’s 6-0 gem in the first subway series game in 1997, which I attended and screamed myself hoarse for the next three days…for me, what it came down to was that the Yankees have won enough championships already, and I don’t want to have to listen to their fans crowing in my own city…

    Fright Night

Of all the nonstop gore that’s been on AMC and other channels this week, Phillies-Yankees is the scariest of all. Root for Rollzilla or A-Kong? There’s not much difference, and I hope they both die, but I can live with Rollzilla standing amidst the rubble of a city with his foot on A-Kong’s chest. (And I don’t mean Dave Kingman.)

    are you kidding me?

Root for Jimmy Rollins? For brad lidge? For Pedro Martinez? I hate the phillies and their obnoxious fans, and don’t care who beats them. I can’t stand the yankees, but guess what? They needed pitching, they got it. They needed offense, they got it. They have strong management and a pedigree of winning. We have Omar and Manuel. Congrats all around.

    He’s not kidding.

Neither am I. The violent bitter fanbase is not Ryan Howard’s fault. Nor Jayson Werth’s nor Cliff Lee’s.

This team was built the way you want a team built. Developing a solid core of youngsters on the farm and supporting them by deftly acquiring solid players that other teams undervalued.

The Mets and Phils co-existed peacefully for most of the last 50 years — largely because of them never really being good at the same time. I feel no reason to turn mean on them now just because they put their shit together. They beat the Mets and we just have to take it, look up from the ground they left us on, and say, “Go win a championship.” It could only lend greater meaning to our death so otherwise lacking in meaning.

The Diamondbacks gave America a gift in 2001. And since then, it’s been the gift that has kept giving. But in order for this to continue… in order for all of us sisters and brothers (and won’t somebody think about the children?) to keep living in a decade, a century, a millenium without a Yankee championship, we need your help. That’s right Anonymous, I’m talking to you. Just because you wrote Primary Colors doesn’t make you right about everything.

For now, let us henceforth call A.J. Burnett “The Chicken Man”

Because they blew him up in Philly last night.

You’re mostly right, except that the Yanks’ 2000 championship counts for this millenium; to argue otherwise is splitting hairs…

It’s splitting hairs for me to dispute the point, but not for you to raise it in the first place? The decade, century, and millenium are all defined by periods beginning in one and ending in zero. http://aa.usno.navy.mil/faq/docs/millennium.php The allegedly mighty Yankees are oh-for-the third millenium. At least they are for then next day and a half. There’s no reason to give them more than they’ve earned.
