Opening Day!

Another long offseason comes to an end, weather permitting, today. I’m trying to keep positive despite knowing I could make a perfectly valid argument that all five starting pitchers — four currently on ther roster — could be in for a long year.

Welcoming the following seven men to the All-Time Mets Roster, and thanks again to readers for the updates:

3 Alex Cora

10 Gary Sheffield

18 Jeremy Reed

22 JJ Putz

36 Darren O’Day

50 Sean Green*

75 Frankie Rodriguez

We also welcome new coaches Luis Alicea, wearing No. 51 and Razor Shines, wearing No. 52.Randy Niemann is back as a coach, wearing a new issue, 55.

    Green came into today’s

Green came into today’s opener with the 50 on, but for some reason he still wore 48 at Friday’s exhibition game. Seems odd.

    Bat Boys!

What happens to the uniform numbers for the bat boys next year? Right now the bat boys are wearing 09. Is Sheffield going to have to give up his number, provided he lasts into next year? Batboys have had numbers since ’86, I believe.

That was my mind blowing up. Tho Sheff lasting more than a season seems a little farfetched, you do raise an interesting quandry. What did the BB’s in ’99 wear? Did they clash with Turk Wendell?
