Have a Very Mookie Christmas…

… and a Huskey New Year!

* Two of the four wearers of the No. 6 jersey last year, Gustavo Molina and Trot Nixon, have signed minor league deals with other clubs. Washington inked Molina last week, while Nixon will try and make it as a walk-on with Milwaukee. And you can add Abraham Nunez to the list of those we won’t likely see again (has ever there been a more pointless Met?), leaving only Nick Evans as a survivor — and not a sure one at that.

Derek Lowe? Wore 32 with the Red Sox and 23 with the Dodgers. Carlos Muniz has appeared intermittentlkt in 32 over the last two seasons. 23 belongs to Brian Schneider whom I still think may not come back.

* Sure, the Yankees are creeps for signing a bunch of $20 million players this winter but before we hand over the division let’s not forget Sabathia only replaces Mussina, who had an excellent year last year; Texiera replaces Giambi who was pretty good too, and Burnett’s an unreliable douche. For a third place team, the Yankees are trying awful hard.

* Manny? Maybe?

    If Schneider, who I think was not terrible last year, isn’t back, then who’s the catcher? You think they’ll sign Varitek?

    I also think they’ll keep Schneider… I don’t think he was as big a hole in the lineup as he’s been portrayed.
    Varitek will cost money that the Mets probably aren’t going to spend, and his numbers were hardly better than Schneider’s last year.

    I think Manny would be a perfect fit if they could somehow get him to commit to two years guaranteed (even at stupid money) and a third year based on incentives.

    I agree with Ranjrz5 – Varitek is barely better than Schneider, and if they can keep a righthanded hitting catcher healthy then Schneider will be less exposed.

    I’d love to see Castillo go

    I’d love to see Castillo go to LA for our old nemesis Andruw Jones, if they can pull it off as rumored here – http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3798671

    Then maybe they can sign Hudson for 2B and, if prices drop enough, someone like Pat Burrell for LF…

    Adding Jones would leave them with a very crowded OF (Tatis, Murphy, Beltran, Church, Reed). From looking at his last couple of years, Jones seems done for.

    It’d be awful hard to say no if the Dodgers pay the freight. At worst a RH-hitting reserve outfielder only a few years removed from a gold glove and a 50-homer season wouldn’t be a bad thing to have around.

    Dealing Castillo would be addition by subtraction, and Tatis could be utilized more as an infield reserve behind Delgado and Wright…If they got Jones and a guy like Burrell, perhaps Church and/or Reed could be dealt for pitching help or else a prospect or two…

    stop screwing around and get Manny. we need a big bat in the middle of the lineup and have no one besides beltran and wright that we can count on for sure.
